About
The Ancient and Accepted Rite of Freemasonry is one of three branches of Upper Stream Freemasonry to which a Master Mason may proceed after he has completed the Symbolic Degrees. The Ancient and Accepted Rite include the Degrees from the 4th through the 33rd the last and highest degree of ancient craft free masonry.
The Supreme Council of North America (SCONA) was officially established on May 7, 2006, in Prince Georges County Maryland, United States of America. In November 2011, SCONA obtained affiliation with the Union of Masonic Strict Initiation Observance (UMSOI) of Italy . It is appropriate; therefore, that this birthplace should be the historic location of what is called the Sea of the Supreme Council for all Lodges of Perfection (4th - 14th); Councils (15th - 16th); Chapters (17th - 18th); and Consistories (19th - 32nd) under the Auspices of the Supreme Council of North America to be authentic.
All Decrees, Charters, Diplomas, and other official documents must and will be issued by the Holy Empire of the Supreme Council of North America.
While the Ancient and Accepted Rite has Thirty Three Degrees, the Supreme Council of North America do not assume any authority over the first three degrees including the Holy Royal Arch where there exists a Grand Lodge which abides by the Landmarks of Freemasonry and continues to be regular, legitimate and is duly constituted. The Regular Grand Lodge of a State refrains from interfering with the administration of the Fourth to Thirty-Third Degree which operates under the authority of the Supreme Council, the Sovereign Grand Commander and the Grand Inspector General of that State by Direction.
